Mihail Ekimdzhiev was born on June 5, 1964 in the town of Teteven. In 1989 he graduated as a Master of Law from the Faculty of Law at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski ".
He was a prosecutor at the Regional Prosecutor's Office in Plovdiv. Since 1992 he has been working as a lawyer at the Bar Association - Plovdiv. As a practicing lawyer, he has been trained by the Council of Europe, the Human Rights Directorate and the Bar Council in Strasbourg. In 1997, he founded the "European Integration and Human Rights Association", which is recognized as one of the leading non-governmental human rights organizations in Bulgaria.
Mihail Ekimdzhiev has scores of won cases against Bulgaria at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Many of them are precedents that have led to changes in Bulgarian legislation.
