Maria Finnanger was born in Bulgaria. She received her secondary education at the Language School in her hometown of Pleven. Maria Finnanger studied English Philology at Plovdiv University. From 1996 to 1999 worked full time as an assistant professor at the Faculty of Philology, Department of English Philology, Plovdiv University.

Maria Finnanger has been living in Norway since 2000. She acquired a Candidata Philologiae degree at the Department of English and American Studies, Faculty of Humanities, Oslo University. She has also studied mathematics at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences. Currently, Maria works as a lecturer at Borgen Secondary School, Asker, Norway. She is teaching English language, Norwegian language, mathematics and science. Most of her students are minor refugees and immigrants. Maria has a broad range of interests, among which are books, movies, music, writing, social media, travelling and outdoor activities.
